Introduction

Brunel is currently searching for an Engineering Manager (Tailings, Crushed Leach & Water) this is a permanent hybrid position located in Phoenix, Arizona supporting our client who are a large global mining company.

What are you going to do 

  • Achieve consistency in good practice among site Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs), Crushed Leach (CL), and/or Water Dams (WD) through cross-functional engagement; by providing leadership; by recommending improvements to processes and systems; and through participation in strategic planning.
  • Act as Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer (RTFE) for assigned complex TSF(s).
  • Provide subject matter expertise to support and continuously improve the framework for sustaining stewardship, stability, and risk management for tailings, crushed leach, and/or water dams.
  • Manage and review Engineering designs and construction plans for crushed leach pads, dams, levees, and foundations company-wide and ensure optimization of projects.
  • Serve as technical advisor on geotechnical infrastructure projects and as company resource for geotechnical information and analysis.
  • Responsible for the scope of work and budget requirements for the tailing's facility, including risk management.
  • Responsible for the implementation of the design.
  • Responsible for the establishment of a change management system.
  • Responsible to deliver required documentation. Interfaces routinely with site leadership and Accountable Executive.
  • Lead a team of engineers to support operating site efforts and initiatives related to tailings facility management/engineering.
  • Scope and supervise analysis and engineering projects related to tailings facility management practices ad special projects.
  • Mentor and develop junior staff in the completion of these projects.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or related Engineering discipline from an accredited curriculum, with courses in Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering and ten (10) years of experience in an applicable field of expertise, including lead or supervisory experience; OR
  • Master's degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or related Engineering discipline from an accredited curriculum, with courses in Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering and eight (8) years of experience in an applicable field of expertise, including lead or supervisory experience
  • Registered Professional Engineer
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing in English to a diversely educated audience.
  • Knowledge in the principles and practices of Civil, Geologic, Geotechnical, or Hydrologic Engineering or a related field of Engineering.
  • Able to demonstrate technical competence through design and/or operations experience in at least one of the following work areas: tailings storage facilities, crushed leach facilities, water dams, process water balance, and/or slurry transport.
  • Strong leadership capabilities
