Introduction

Brunel is currently searching for Sr Mining Geologist for direct hire with our mining client about an hour East of Tucson, Arizona.

What are you going to do 

This is an exciting opportunity to get in on the ground floor with a start-up mining operation. Reporting to the Mine Manager, the Senior Mine Geologist will ensure the safe, efficient and cost controlled execution of the mine geology and ore control processes through the oversight, contribution to and delivery of timely related outputs. Establish systems, standards and processes to support delivery of best practice ore control, geological and technical support of mining operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the Mine Geology team including a Geologist, ore control technicians and blast hole samplers.
  • Lead by example - Seek opportunities to systematically support efforts in leading and improving safety in all areas of the operation.
  • Develop and establish Ore Control and Geology group policies and procedures.
  • Manage and train Geology group personnel in Ore Control, blast hole sampling and Geology procedures.
  • Control costs with respect to Mine Geology and maximize efficiencies by implementing approved recommendations.
  • Manage and oversee all contractors' activities related to the Mine Geology team.
  • Develop and manage QA/QC protocols for blast hole samples and assay results.
  • Direct geostatistical investigations, geologic, ore control and resource model construction.
  • Support cross functional communication with engineering, permitting, metallurgy, and operations teams.
  • Prepare daily, weekly and monthly production reports.

Essential skills and knowledge 

Qualifications:

  • BS in Geology, Economic Geology or Mine Engineering or similar.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in Mine Engineering, with at least 5 of those years in an open pit Mine Engineering supervisory position.
  • Excellent understanding of open pit mine planning and optimization.
  • Strong leadership abilities in a fast-paced mining situation.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, both orally and written, mine plans to all levels of the organization from Mine management to site employees.
  • Demonstrated ability to critically analyze longer term designs and schedules and recommend improvements to maximize operational safety and efficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to consider short, and long-term consequences of proposed changes to mine plans.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team effort as well as individually.
  • Excellent working knowledge of software such as ACAD, Vulcan, Minesite or equivalent software. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to establish credibility and be decisive, but able to recognize and support organization's priorities and preferences.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Must be fluent in English
