Introduction

Brunel has partnered with two well-established underground mining operations in QLD, one in coal, the other in hard rock. to find capable and experienced Mining Engineers. These are permanent roles offering the chance to join high-performing teams with strong technical leadership, production-driven environments, and long-term stability.

What are you going to do 

Brunel is recruiting for two key Mining Engineer opportunities:

  • QLD: A well-supported underground coal operation (longwall and board & pillar)

  • NSW: A high-performing underground copper and gold operation

In both roles, you'll play a vital role in driving technical excellence across mine planning, design, and operational optimisation. You'll work closely with production and technical teams to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant resource recovery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mine Planning & Design: Develop and refine mine plans - focused on longwall or board & pillar in coal, and stoping or block caving methods for copper and gold.

  • Production Optimisation: Monitor site performance, support efficient coal or ore recovery, and identify opportunities for productivity and cost improvements.

  • Technical Support: Contribute to infrastructure design, development sequencing, and ventilation planning to maintain safe and effective operations.

  • Collaboration: Work alongside geotechnical, ventilation, safety, and scheduling teams to deliver well-integrated mine plans.

  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure all engineering activities meet QLD or NSW mining regulations and uphold the highest safety standards.

  • Continuous Improvement: Drive innovation through new technologies, planning tools, and process enhancements.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or a related discipline

  • 3-5 years' experience in mining operations, ideally with exposure to underground coal or underground hard rock environments

  • Proficient in mining software such as Surpac, Vulcan, and AutoCAD

  • Strong commitment to safety, compliance, and best practice standards

  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and clear, effective communication skills
