Introduction

Brunel is seeking a highly experienced Closure Specialist - Renewables to join our client's dynamic Projects and Closure Team. Based in Perth CBD, this 12-month contract offers an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in supporting the company's renewable energy and decarbonisation initiatives in the Pilbara region.

About this role

You will take ownership of the development and implementation of mine closure plans, ensuring that renewable energy projects align with both regulatory requirements and the company's long-term sustainability objectives. In this role, you will be the key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, driving collaboration across multiple teams to ensure successful project closure and minimizing future environmental impact.

Duties include:

  • Lead Closure Planning: Design and implement mine closure plans (MDCPs) for renewable projects, ensuring adherence to industry regulations and company standards.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Engage with internal teams (Environment, Planning, Engineering, etc.) and external stakeholders such as government bodies, traditional landowners, and consultants to ensure transparency and alignment.
  • Project Management: Manage all aspects of closure projects, including budgets, contracts, and scheduling, to ensure timely and cost-effective completion.
  • Risk Management: Use your environmental and heritage expertise to advise on risk minimization and influence design teams on reducing long-term closure liabilities.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Be a subject matter expert in relevant legislation and ensure full compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Reporting: Prepare comprehensive documentation for regulatory submissions and stakeholder communications.

Is this you?

Required

  • Experience: Extensive years in closure planning and project management, with at strong experience in mine closure.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of WA mining and environmental regulations, with proven experience in closure and rehabilitation planning.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Ability to influence and negotiate solutions, work autonomously in cross-functional teams, and manage external consultants.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills, with experience engaging both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Commitment to Safety: Prioritises the safety of colleagues and stakeholders at all times.

Desired

  • Experience in renewable energy projects and linear infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in GIS tools and rehabilitation strategies.
