Women In Energy

Brunel is a proud supporter of Women In Energy (Perth) and their efforts to connect, support and inspire women in the energy sector.

As a gold sponsor of Women in Energy (WIE), Brunel is an avid proponent of their work supporting and advocating for women working within the energy industry – whether that be through the public sector, utility providers or businesses producing energy from traditional or renewable sources.

Women in Energy exists to champion the voice of women in the energy sector and inspire the journey for our future female leaders. Its purpose is to enable women working in the energy sector to achieve ‘whole of life’ success through inspiration, connection and knowledge.

Supporting voices, pathways and diversity in Australia's resource industry

For over 10 years, WIE has been connecting, supporting and inspiring women in the energy sector through networking, training and career development opportunities. In that time they have hosted over 80 events, attracting more than 5,000 attendees and featuring 125 guest speakers.

A subcommittee of the Australian Institute of Energy Perth, WIE’s focus is on Western Australia – a logical alignment given the state produces 60% of nation’s natural gas, 80% of its petroleum and is home to a bourgeoning renewables market. Brunel’s deep ties with WA’s energy workforce and commitment to supporting Women in STEM professions, make WIE a natural partner.

Attracting and retaining a more diverse workforce

Brunel’s Director ANZ Querida Swinnerton said Women In Energy plays an important role in ensuring women have a sense of belonging within what is still a very male-dominated workforce.

“With women accounting for less than a quarter of Australia’s energy workforce, initiatives which support and provide female workers with a sense of belonging and career mobility are essential for retention and narrowing that gender gap,” said Querida Swinnerton, Brunel Director ANZ.

We see first-hand that our energy industry clients recognise the benefits of diversity and want greater balance within their workforce, but to get there, we not only need to attract more females to the energy careers, we also need to retain and grow the women already in the industry.
