Introduction

  • Senior Engineer is fully responsible and has full delegated authority to act directly on behalf of with the Contractor regarding construction, implementation activities of One Million Tree Plantation and other plantation and landscaping projects.
  • The role provides overall responsibility for the construction supervision and administration of the day-to-day activities on the project with respect to planation, landscaping and associated activities.
  • Ensures that all construction activity conforms to the plans and provisions set down in the contract document, agreed Procedures Manual for the project.
  • Act as the senior person on site responsible for administration of the contract.
  • Lead, direct and monitor the performance of all contractor site engineers and support staff as appropriate.
  • Observe the safety procedures followed by the Contractor. Issue instructions as necessary to correct safety violations.

What are you going to do 

  • Monitor the work of contractor for conformance with all provisions of the Contract.
  • Monitor the contractor's program of works to ensure on time delivery.
  • Advise and assist the Contractor on construction procedures and contractual matters.
  • Respond with appropriate and necessary levels of construction supervision to provide quality assurance in accordance with Contract documents.
  • Coordinate the construction work with the Project Management Team (PMT), Principal Engineer (Project Manager) and Contractors.
  • Prepares recommendations to the PMT and Project Manager. Identifies constraints and recommend corrective measures.
  • Ensure prompt exchange of correspondence, submittals, RFI's and Change Orders to all parties. Maintain correspondence, submittal, RFI and Change Order logs in accordance with Project Procedures.
  • Receive and log all submittals. Distribute according to Project Procedures and track progress of the submittal review process.
  • Lead review and prepare final responses to the Contractors at the conclusion of the review process. Alert Project Manager when submittals are behind accepted schedules.
  • Lead in review of drawings, materials submittals, pre-qualifications, method statements and other activities.
  • Manage the on-site inspections, monitoring of progress on the site, preparing of inspection reports on all aspects of plantation, landscaping works, irrigation system installation, plant species selection, soil selection and analysis, drainage system, layout the grading plan and preparation of natural drainage system, general maintenance of horticulture of existing and proposed trees, palms, shrubs and grass.
  • Review claims from the contractor and prepare recommendations for project Manager. Assist in negotiations with contractors regarding the value of claims or any changes in schedule. Check and certify progress payments to the Contractor.
  • Review the Contractors’ progress. Monitor the work performed, the materials incorporated in the works, the materials stored at the site and the Contractors’ manpower and equipment.
  • Attend weekly, monthly and other progress meetings held at the site and offices.
  • Assists in the final inspection of the work. Monitors the final completion of the work. Coordinate permitting, approval, commissioning and handover as needed to assist in smooth progress and completion of the work.
  • Prepare responses to the Contractors. Prepare and transmit all site instructions.
  • Ensures the correctness and completeness of the As Built drawings in coordination with the As Built Engineer.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture & related subjects, Architecture, Engineering or Project Management
  • Master's degree is preferred. Member of Professional Engineering or Construction Management Society or other recognized body is desirable. Certification(s) in PMP (Project Management Professional) preferred.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience on large projects involving landscaping / plantation design and implementation, with knowledge of building codes, design manuals and construction practices.
  • Requires knowledge of financial terms and principles. Ability to conduct financial/business analysis including the preparation of reports.
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Suite including MS Project
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively respond to sensitive issues, complex queries or complaints.
  • Ability to effectively plan, lead, organize and optimize the performance of the team.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and summarize data and to prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Requires advanced analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Proven ability to work within budgets.
  • Ability to interpret complex contract documents including design, plans, specifications, shop drawings.
  • Ability to make decisions and recommendations on significant engineering problems, and review drawings, specifications and installations for constructability.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect data to brief PMT and Project Manager on project issues and provide possible resolutions in addition to reviewing and drafting responses to correspondences.
