Service technicians are technical specialists who never sit still or let a problem go unsolved. Service technicians are responsible for providing technical service, maintenance, and repair work either on-premises or in the field at an external customer site. Service technicians who primarily work at external customer sites can also be called field service technicians. Service technicians are frequently on the frontline with customers, so being people-centric and providing great customer service is a must-have skillset.

In facility management, service technicians may be responsible for repairing sensors in monitoring equipment. A central service technician in the healthcare sector is often responsible for disassembling, analyzing, repairing, sterilizing, cleaning, and reassembling medical supplies properly to prevent infection.
